About Artsonia:
Dear Families,
This year I will be using an online digital portfolio to collect and store your child’s artwork. I will be creating digital images of student art and uploading them to Artsonia (www.artsonia.com), which is an online student art museum. Artsonia showcases artwork from thousands of schools around the world. Artsonia’s goals are to develop students’ pride and self-esteem, increase their multicultural understanding through art and involve parents and relatives in student education and accomplishments.
In art class, I will photograph completed student artwork and upload it to Artsonia. You will receive an email from Artsonia asking you to go online and “activate” your child’s account using a password. If your child doesn’t have any artwork posted right now, you can active your account, anyway, and Artsonia will notify you whenever new pieces of artwork are published.
Activating your child’s account is completely optional. If you activate your account, you will be able to view your child’s online portfolio, and you will have the option to share your child’s artwork with others online. The site encourages responsible digital citizenship by identifying each student using a screen name which is the student's first name and a number (e.g., Sarah22). Last names are not publicly posted on the website. Additionally, all comments are pre-approved by the registered parent before being posted for the artist. If you choose not to activate your child’s account, the art teacher will be the only person able to view your child's artwork. If you do choose to publicly post your child’s work on Artsonia, I will be linking the Artsonia gallery to my website, so all students who complete the project can have their artwork displayed and linked to the school art website.
Remember to watch for an email from Artsonia. Thank you!
